The Ultimate Guide to Alcohol-Free Beer This Summer

Summer 2026 is shaping up to be massive. You have got the World Cup running through June and July. Festival season. BBQ weather. Long evenings in the garden. Bank holidays. All of it happening at once.

And here is what I have noticed over the last couple of summers. More and more people are reaching for AF beer. Not because they have to. Because it is actually better for most summer situations. You can drink all day. You can drive home. You wake up fine. You do not lose an entire Sunday to a hangover when the weather is gorgeous.

But not every AF beer suits every occasion. A bold IPA that is perfect for a BBQ might be too heavy for a hot afternoon by the pool. A light lager that is great in the sun might feel thin at an evening garden party.

So here is my guide. Every major summer occasion, matched with the AF beer that works best for it. Based on actual experience, not guesswork.

The Pool Party

Best pick: IMPOSSIBREW Enhanced Lager

Pool parties are about one thing - staying cool and having fun without anyone drowning. I am only half joking. Alcohol and swimming pools are a genuinely terrible combination. People get clumsy, they misjudge depths, they fall asleep on lilos and get sunburned into oblivion.

AF beer at a pool party is common sense. And the IMPOSSIBREW Enhanced Lager is my top pick because it is cold, crisp and sessionable. You can drink four or five over an afternoon and feel perfectly fine. The L-theanine gives you this gentle calm that works brilliantly when you are floating around doing nothing. It is summer in a can basically.

Runner-up: Heineken 0.0. For a pool party you want something that comes in cans (no glass near the pool - ever) and that everyone will accept. Heineken 0.0 ticks both boxes. Not the tastiest but nobody will complain.

Avoid: Anything in glass bottles. Seriously. Glass and pools do not mix. If your favourite AF beer only comes in glass, pour it into a plastic cup before you go outside.

The Music Festival

Best pick: Athletic Brewing Run Wild IPA

I have written a whole separate guide on AF beers for UK festivals in 2026 so I will keep this one brief.

Festivals are about endurance. You are on your feet for hours. It is loud, it is hot (hopefully), and you need to keep going from the afternoon acts through to the headliners at 11pm. Alcohol kills your energy by about 6pm. AF beer keeps you going.

Athletic Brewing Run Wild gets my festival pick because it is widely available, consistently good and the cans are light. That last point matters more than you think when you are carrying everything on your back through a muddy field.

IMPOSSIBREW is my personal favourite but it is harder to find at festival bars right now. If you are bringing your own to drink at the campsite though - absolutely bring IMPOSSIBREW. The Triple Hopped IPA after a long day on your feet is genuinely restorative.

The Garden Party

Best pick: Lucky Saint Unfiltered Lager

Garden parties have a different vibe to BBQs. There is usually more effort put into things. Proper glasses. Nice food. Maybe bunting. Somebody has definitely cleaned the patio furniture.

Lucky Saint is the AF beer that suits this setting best. It looks beautiful poured into a glass - that golden, hazy colour. It tastes refined. It is the AF beer you bring when you want to impress slightly.

For the host, I would actually recommend having IMPOSSIBREW Enhanced Pale Ale alongside the Lucky Saint. The EPA has more character and depth. People who normally drink craft beer will appreciate it. And the ashwagandha and L-theanine keep the whole party feeling relaxed and mellow without anyone getting messy.

Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% also works well at garden parties. It has that clean, European lager thing going on that feels slightly sophisticated. Especially good if you are serving Mediterranean food - think bruschetta, olives, grilled vegetables.

Sports Day

Best pick: IMPOSSIBREW Triple Hopped IPA

And no, I do not mean the kids' school sports day. Although AF beer would make that more bearable too.

I mean the summer days when you are actually playing something. Five-a-side in the park. Cricket on the green. A charity fun run. Tennis with mates. Whatever it is - you are being active and you want a beer afterwards.

Post-sport beer is one of life's great pleasures. And the IMPOSSIBREW Triple Hopped IPA is perfect for it. You have earned something bold and flavourful. The hops taste incredible when you are genuinely thirsty. And the L-theanine helps your body unwind after exercise in a way that regular beer never does. Regular beer after sport makes you crash. This does the opposite.

If you have not tried IMPOSSIBREW yet, you can get a tenner off your first order here. Decent excuse to stock up before summer properly kicks off.

Athletic Brewing is also great post-sport. They literally brand themselves as the beer for active people which is a bit on the nose but the product backs it up.

The Pub Garden

Best pick: Whatever they have - but ask for Lucky Saint or BrewDog Punk AF

Pub garden season is the best season. That first warm evening when everyone spills outside and every table is full by 5pm. You know the ones.

The reality is that in a pub you are limited to what they stock. The good news is AF beer options in pubs have improved massively. Most places now have at least one or two options. Lucky Saint is the most common. BrewDog Punk AF shows up a lot too. Heineken 0.0 is almost universal.

My tip - if you are a regular somewhere, ask the landlord to stock IMPOSSIBREW. Seriously. They are always looking for new products and AF beer is the fastest growing category in the drinks industry. If enough people ask, they will order it.

For now though, work with what the pub has. A cold Lucky Saint in a pub garden on a sunny evening is not something to complain about.

Date Night

Best pick: IMPOSSIBREW Cask Reserve Amber

This one surprised me. But hear me out.

The Cask Reserve Amber is IMPOSSIBREW's most sophisticated beer. It has depth. Complexity. Caramel and toffee notes with a clean finish. It is the kind of beer you drink slowly and actually think about.

On a summer evening date - whether that is dinner in the garden, a picnic in the park, or just sitting on the balcony - this beer sets the tone. You are present. You are relaxed. The ashwagandha and L-theanine take the edge off any first-date nerves without the sloppy confidence that comes from actual alcohol.

Nobody has ever ruined a date by being too calm and attentive. Plenty of people have ruined dates by drinking too much and saying something stupid. AF beer is literally a competitive advantage in the dating market. I stand by this take.

Peroni 0.0 is a decent date beer too if you want something lighter. It looks classy in the bottle and it does not scream "I am trying really hard" the way some craft beers can.

The Beach Day

Best pick: Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0%

Yes I know we are in the UK and our beaches are mostly grey pebbles and wind. But we do get those days. Those rare, beautiful days when the sun is out and the sea is actually blue and you can pretend you are in the Mediterranean for about four hours before it clouds over.

Peroni 0.0 in a cooler bag on a British beach is peak optimism. And I love it. It tastes like holiday. It tastes like you have made good life choices. Even if you are sitting on a towel in Bournemouth watching a seagull steal someone's chips.

Any cold lager works at the beach really. IMPOSSIBREW Enhanced Lager is great here too. The key is temperature. If it is not ice cold it is not worth drinking at the beach. Pack more ice than you think you need.

The World Cup Watch Party

Best pick: IMPOSSIBREW Triple Hopped IPA

I have covered this in detail in my World Cup 2026 beer guide but the short version is this. The World Cup is in North America this year. Late kickoffs for UK viewers. Work night matches. You need to be able to watch without destroying the next day.

IMPOSSIBREW's Triple Hopped IPA is perfect for match viewing. The L-theanine keeps you focused. The ashwagandha keeps you calm during penalties. And the taste is proper - a full-bodied IPA that feels like a match-day beer, not a compromise.

See my full guide for the complete ranking and watch party tips. It is going to be a long tournament and planning ahead is smart.

The All-Day Summer Session

Best pick: Mix it up

Sometimes summer is not a specific event. It is just a long, warm Saturday with nowhere particular to be. You start with coffee. Then at some point you switch to beer. And the afternoon just unfolds.

For these days I rotate through everything. Start light with an IMPOSSIBREW Enhanced Lager or Lucky Saint. Move to something hoppier in the afternoon - Triple Hopped IPA or Athletic Run Wild. Wind down with the Cask Reserve Amber in the evening.

The luxury of AF beer is that you can do this. You can drink eight beers across a full day and still go to bed feeling fine. Try that with regular beer and you are in trouble by beer number four.

Stocking Your Summer Fridge

Here is what I recommend having on hand for summer 2026.

The essentials:

Nice to have:

That gives you options for every situation without needing to run to the shop before every event. And most of it keeps for months so there is no rush to drink it all.

The Bottom Line

Summer and AF beer are a natural fit. Better than winter, honestly. In winter you can argue for a real pint by the fire. In summer the case for AF beer is overwhelming. You are outside more. You are active more. You are drinking for longer stretches. You are driving to places. The heat makes hangovers worse. Everything about summer says AF beer is the smarter choice.

And the beer itself has never been better. Three years ago you had maybe two or three drinkable options. Now you have a whole fridge worth of genuinely good AF beers. IMPOSSIBREW in particular has changed how I think about it. It is not just beer without alcohol - it is beer that actively makes you feel good. The L-theanine and ashwagandha are the difference between a drink that removes something and a drink that adds something.

If you want to get sorted for summer, grab a tenner off your first IMPOSSIBREW order here. Start with the variety pack so you can figure out your favourite for each occasion.

Have a good summer. Drink good beer. Remember all of it.
